We ask Everyday Diabetics three questions and they record themselves answering from the heart. Real people, real answers, unfiltered and uncut for the real world.

This week we put three questions to April Bates. When doctors told April that she had Type 2 Diabetes in November of 2015, it was at the same time they diagnosed her with Congestive Heart Failure.

Unlike countless others who, upon hearing their diabetes diagnosis, have the sudden feeling of being straddled with a life altering event, the 41-year-old Bate’s diagnosis with Type 2 was actually the lesser of her worries.

April offers some great advice to those recently diagnosed:

You can do this. It’s not as huge of a deal as you think it is, it’s an opportunity, to take care of yourself. So, just hang in there, it’ll be ok.

Three Questions:

1. What was your reaction when you were first diagnosed?
2. Tell us about your experience with diabetes and how it has affected your life?
3. What advice would you give to someone who has recently been diagnosed?
