Being pregnant, you’re already worried about a lot of things. And the added stress of knowing that you might get gestational diabetes is not helping. But what if there’s an accurate predictor of an increased risk for gestational diabetes?

Researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in Boston, have come up with a new simple blood test for the early screening of gestational diabetes in women at increased risk.

ScienceDaily reports:

Researchers have found that a single measurement of GCD59, a novel biomarker for diabetes, at weeks 24-28 of gestation identified women who failed the glucose challenge test as well as women with gestational diabetes. Plasma levels of GCD59 were also associated with the probability of delivering a large-for-gestational-age newborn.
